Food news of the week:
Hopped over to the new(er) Qima Cafe with my visitor friend from home, and was mighty impressed by their crookie and dense, custardy caneles. Was also whisked away to Hide one fuzzy night, where the steaks (and oysters, as I always rave about) are terribly underrated. I like how they keep all the fatty bits intact! Today’s restaurant review is on Brat, the last time I visited being a few years ago, and I check to see if it still lives up to its name…
Science of the week:
Had the privilege of being on my friend Joe’s podcast talking about all things gut-brain-mood axis, and check our their website on all things men’s health. Joe is a brilliant scientific lead and an expert on so many facets of men’s health! Though I couldn't vouch for my own opinion on men’s health specifically, I talked about how many men don’t prioritise their mental health because a) they don’t recognise the signs, b) they feel societal pressure to appear strong, and c) they lack resources or support. Can't wait to share the episode once it’s up.
Insight of the week:
I don’t know much about US history, so currently reading this book on the 11 rival nations within the USA, lending insight into how and why it is so divided, explaining the persistent cultural and political differences across the US and parts of Canada, affecting everything from policy preferences to social attitudes.
Recipe of the week:
Eggless French Toast For One. I used to make this all the time when I was vegan, and made it recently with some ripe bananas. SO good and easy!
