Food news of the week:
A slew of tiramisu lately, and so far my mini ranking is as such: Guerrilla Coffee (fluffy yet lively and indulgent)> Cenzo > Pietrasanta > Baristart (was slightly disappointed by the thin sponge and lacklustre cream). Then, in the guts of Seletar, we stumbled upon the most delightful ham&cheese toastie made with homemade sourdough and Brazilian guava jam, hitting the sweet-savory spot perfectly. More on that in the last section below. Bonus: they serve strawberry cheesecake and açaí gelato that are full-flavoured and better than they need to be…. Another highlight is the rare beef bowl at Uya, famous for its smooth eel, but the beef is slept on. Thin, just-rare, perfect mixed into the sticky rice slathered in some reduced yuzu soy dressing and wet yolk bursting from a wobbling delicate 60C egg on top.
Science of the week:
Staying loyal to a wellness routine makes me feel like I can strike a healthy balance between enjoying more intentional portions of food I love, and honouring my vanity. Between the daily 10k+ steps, yoga and pilates, I’ve recently added these electrolytes into the mix, pairing them with a splash of apple cider vinegar in water – a habit I’ve had since 21. I’m totally obsessed with the clean ingredient list and grape flavour. Electrolytes are excellent for deeper hydration and cognitive function, so I usually wind up not feeling as much of a need for a big Joe first thing in the morning, too.
Insight of the week:
In 12 New Rules for Life, Peterson reflects on the ancient myth of Marduk, a Mesopotamian God who rises above the fray of the god world to create a brand new hierarchy of gods and thus a new age of man. It reminds us that you don’t have to feel trapped in some role you inherited, you really can consciously decide who you want to be and what you can achieve.
