Top September Eats
And I’ll keep it punchy. Meant to do this last week, but there was just too much to say in other arenas. I have the full intention of convincing all of you to go, at least to the places themselves. Wellness stuff, aside from food news, will be at the bottom. And with that, the stars, in no particular order:
Wagyu foie gras roll at Dinings. Japanese with a twist, not a usual haunt, but this sold the whole place to me from the first bite. Butter-rich and heavy on the sear, yet light and delicate. A melting mess of streaky fat.
My cream cheese-stuffed chocolate chip cookies. I made these to sell back in my first graduate year at Oxford, which seems so much more recent than it really was. Just this morning I baked some leftover batter in a muffin tin and it blossomed into overly-buttery goop, but 10 minutes more of baking time did the trick: fudge and chew all the way through. Think Levain for the cookies– soft and thick thanks to cornstarch.
Locanda Locatelli’s lobster garlic linguine, peppered with just the right amount of chilli. This has been their mainstay for a number of years, and despite the mixed reviews online, I appreciate their balanced service and quality food.
